The New Jawbone - what they call "earwear". If you are looking for a bluetooth handset that does an excellent job of noise elimination, or if you are looking for a sleek looking piece of cool technology, you don't have to look any further.
Noise Elimination
The Jawbone 2 Bluetooth Headset is well known for its revolutionary NoiseAssasin function. And after trying it out, I can tell you it really does work in many situations. From noisy airports to car rides, the headset handles noise elimination better than its competitors out in the market. I noticed it increases the volume as your surroundings get nosier. You can't appreciate it fully unless you are on the other side of the call. With this, I have callers tell me they don't even know I was out on the street. But a couple of my friends think my voice sounds more digital or as they put it, "like it was coming from a radio." That's probably due to how the technology performs acoustics and audio processing to achieve its results. The technology, originally for military use, was to pick up hostile sounds in noisy environments. Now it's been tailored for consumer use.
Similar to the previous Jawbone, the Jawbone 2's performance in a windy place is still lacking. With the window down on a highway and me leaning slightly towards the window, my caller heard a lot of noise in the background. However, in general, if noise elimination is important to you, the Jawbone 2 headset will rank as one of the top bluetooth headsets out there.
Look and size
The modern design can be a bit bulky. The "metallic" part has been said to resemble a cheese grater, and is easily distinguishable from other brands. It is more visible as it covers more of your face than other bluetooth headsets, and it also means you need to have a bigger pocket to carry it around.
I got the gold color one, because I think it fits my looks better and is a new color previously not available. Both the black and the silver looks very nice too. The manufacturer is obviously very proud of the design and calls this an "earwear".
Fit
The package comes with four earloops and three earbuds for the two ears. Many have complained about the fit. I also found it harder than other headsets to put on, especially the first time. I ended up spending a good five minutes picking and adjusting the earloop to fit my ear. The earloops are bendable, making this adjustment not too difficult. After that, the earloop's fit is not bad and I haven't had to adjust it since. One thing to note though, it seems the earbud is meant to sit not right against your ear, but a little bit away from it. This is more comfortable for me when I am not making a call, as my ear won't get warm as quickly. However, I find myself pressing the earbud closer in the middle of the certain calls to hear better.
Connectivity
This headset works with any phone that has bluetooth, except for the Motorola Q for some reason. It works fine with my iPhone 3G and Sony Ericsson K790a, and makes hands free calling a breeze.
Battery
One charge lasted me about five days before I needed to recharge. But I am not a heavy user. As with other bluetooth headsets, always remember to turn it off when it is not in use to conserve power. You can charge by either USB cable or normal wall adapter, both of which come with the package.
Verdict
There are certainly cheaper options in the market for a bluetooth headset. But if noise elimination is important for you, then I think the price difference is very justifiable.
